  • Two 20 oz cans green jackfruit in brine
  • ½ tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 8 pack buns
  • Red onions and any other no-protein sandwich toppings you like

  • 1Rinse and drain the canned jackfruit and place it in a bowl.
  • 2Add the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt, and stir until well combined.
  • 3Heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium heat in a large skillet and fry the jackfruit for 3 minutes.
  • 4Next, add 1 cup of barbecue sauce, and reduce the heat to low.
  • 5Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes, adding the ¼ cup of water to thin the sauce if needed. Stir occasionally.
  • 6Once the jackfruit has softened, remove it from the heat and pull it apart with 2 forks.
  • 7Serve it on a bun with all your favorite no-protein fixings.
